Outdoor Electrical Enclosures
Outdoor
electrical enclosures are durable storage cabinets which hold electronic equipment which may included mount
switches, buttons and displays; protecting the contents from the external environment.
The
electrical enclosure is the only thing seen by people looking at it, and part of its design is to be
aesthetically pleasing – as opposed to looking at a tangle of wires and cords. There are lots of different
enclosure designs and they’re most commonly constructed from plastics, metals and wood. The plastic used for
their construction is usually plastic with the metals being almost always either steel or aluminum. They’re
usually made to specific specifications so that they can comfortably fit the electrical
equipment.
Enclosures serve many purposes and
some have small openings which can be unblocked to fit cables, wires, conduits or connectors. Usually the
purpose of these boxes is to the components which allow phone lines to functions properly. It’s very common to
see this type of box on pretty much every street because of course most people like to have landlines connected
to their house. It’s also just as important for connecting to the internet and which outdoor electrical
enclosures high speed broadband browsing would be near-impossible.
You’re
likely to see one, if not on your road then a road connecting to it because they’re vital for almost all
communications for your house. If you’re having broadband installed than there’s a good chance that whoever
it is you’re buying the service from will probably have to install the correct cables and connections at the
outdoor electrical enclosure which then will affect your house. The only time you wouldn’t
have to do this is if a pre-existing connection already existed, perhaps when the previous residents moved out
and had the same broadband company with which you are now striking a deal with.
It’s
very rare for there not to be outdoor electrical enclosures on your street and unless
you’re living in a very rural area you’re bound to have one. If you don’t have one on your street it doesn’t
necessarily mean you can’t have a phone line/internet but it may just mean that the area you live in is so
sparsely populated that the box could be miles away. For example if each box can assist up to around 25
households and you’re in an area of low population density then the box could be a long distance away because
there’s no need to have one so close for just a few properties.
